JM goes to Monterrey, MEXICO!Abroad semester at the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) November 29 Last week in MonterreyHola a todos! I've finally managed to write a new entry in my blog.... :-) -it's funny to see that my last blog was about my first week, and now it's already my last... I've copied my essay from spanish class so y'all can read what I've been doing here in Mexico. Cya soon!
August 07 1st weekMy first week here in Monterrey is already over. We didn't have real classes yet but some introduction stuff. On Thursday we had like an event at the Residencias for all the residents and their parents. And the day after a huge welcome event at the campus for all the first year students. The welcome event was a unique experience for me. There were some speeches of the deans, dance shows, free lunch, and a concert at night. In the afternoon all students were splitted up into groups, and had to do some (childish) games. I guess coz all of them are freshmen, so around 17-19, it was apparently fun for them doing those games...
On Saturday we had a free tour in downtown Monterrey. Well, it wasn't really a tour coz we just went to a museum, and they drove through downtown a bit, and brought us to a mall to have lunch.... But I could take some pics while I was in the bus... -just check out the album.
Now something about the atmosphere at the Residencias: Most of the students living here are really, really rich! So, it's kind of difficult to make friends with them as they've got a different way of living... But they're all nice and friendly though...
Till next time guys! August 01 ¡Hola! After having a more or less stressful flight I've finally reached UDEM. My flight from Zurich via Dallas to Monterrey was unfortunately delayed for unknown reasons; meaning that I had to wait in the plane in Zurich for nearly 2 hours... :( As my connecting flight from Dallas to Monterrey was intended to fly at 4:45pm, and my plane landed in Dallas at 4:30pm, I already was planning to take the next plane at around 9pm... Though, with a lot of luck and help from the friendly AA staff I could run through the airport and still catch my plane, which flew at around 5.40pm. -fortunately, also with a delay.
When I arrived in Monterrey the long and stressful day wasn't over yet.... :( My luggage didn't arrive... There were several people looking for their baggage... -at least I wasn't the only one. An AA representative told us that we would get a phone call the next day and they would deliver it... Hopefully it's gonna work.
At around 9pm I took a taxi going to the Residencias at UDEM; the taxi's at the airport are really clean and new. The highway here reminds me of the highways in the Philippines, not because of the traffic, but of the many billboards distracting the driver's attention, and the chaotic driving. While heading to UDEM it was raining; thus there were spots on the road where it was a bit flooded... Then, at 9.30pm I've finally reached my final destination. I was amazed by the huge and beautiful campus. Before entering the campus you will be asked by a security guard for an ID. At the reception of the Residencias I received my key-card for my room, then was introduced to 4 students who'll also be living here for at least one semester. Today most students are gonna check-in at the Residencias, so it's gonna be full. -I guess.
¡Hasta pronto! July 26 WelcomeHi guys!
So, this is my first entry in my new blog. What should I write? I'm actually not that fond of writing, which means that I'll probably just upload some pics for you guys to see... I won't promise to write regularly, but I'll try to... :)
I've finally received my US visa yesterday and am now ready to fly... But first I'll have to write my last exam on Friday and fix some stuff here before heading to Mexico on Monday. By the way, I can actually tell you a few words why I'm gonna stay in Mexico... We as IM students have the opportunity (in fact, it's a must!) to study for at least one semester abroad in one of our partner universities around the world. I've chosen the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) for my abroad semester... I hope to learn a new culture and the language a bit, and see the fascinating spots Mexico has to offer (Cancun, Pyramid at Chichén Itzá; new wonder of the world, ...).
Hopefully, I'm gonna find enough time to update this blog during my stay in Mexico...
Hasta luego!
